Projects

Friendship Tree Design Project (Grade 2/3)

Currently, my students are working on designing a Friendship Tree for our classroom. They are following the design thinking process: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test.

Minecraft Education Edition Pilot Project

My grade 5 students were lucky enough this year to be included in the Minecraft Education Edition Pilot Project through our school board.

Song Writing Project with EarSketch

After working with Brenda Sherry and Peter Skillen on Lynx coding, the students were hungry for more. As we learned about the elements of music, students began tinkering with EarSketch, a powerful coding platform that allows users to record, sample, and remix music from famous artists.

Lynx Coding Project (Logo Computer Systems Inc.), with Brenda Sherry and Peter Skillen

Collaborating with Brenda and Peter is one of my favourite things to do, so when I found out that they were working on a coding project using Logo, I jumped at the opportunity. Students created everything from geometric art work to video games.

100 Classrooms Challenge (with Rotman Institute’s I-Think Team)

Using the integrative thinking process, my grade 5 students worked together to solve a real-world problem for the Ontario SPCA.

Goals Project (with goalsproject.org)

After learning about climate change, grade 5 students further explored the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and created a solution to create sustainable cities and communities.

Climate Change Project

At the beginning of the school year, my grade 5 students were learning about Indigenous communities and the importance of acknowledging their lands, their struggles, and their futures. This led to an inquiry into how we could follow the teachings of Indigenous elders and leaders.
