Hi, I’m Marcia. Teacher, learner, consultant, ed. tech. nerd.

I believe in real world teaching and problem solving and that students construct their knowledge through their experiences in making and doing. My passion for educational technology and project-based learning drives my teaching practice and inspires me to collaborate with other educators and organizations. I strive to support my colleagues and provide leadership within my school, the board, and the wider education community.

Over the past year, I have been working with Advanced Learning Partnerships and Girls Who Game to design professional learning for teachers and students in North America. I also learn with the students in my grade 2/3 class at the Upper Grand District School board. My goal is to harness the power of progressive education practices to transform the learning experience in my own classroom and to support teachers in North America through professional learning. I strongly believe that the recent global pandemic provided a tremendous opportunity for educators to change the way we teach and learn. I have engaged in inquiry with my students, colleagues, and organizations across Canada and the world this to embrace this moment.

Acting as a researcher, I guide and support my students as they construct their knowledge through inquiry, global collaboration, multidisciplinary learning, design thinking, and the project approach. As I learn along with my students, I know that I stand on the shoulders of giants like Jean Piaget, John Dewey, Maria Montessori, and Seymour Papert. I draw from their wisdom every day.

My colleagues are always asking me for help with technology. I am passionate about sharing what I know about project-based learning using 21st century skills and global connections.

Publications

As I learn, I sometimes record my musings and questions. I blog about what I know, what I learn, and what I want to do next. I am always looking for new ways to share my passion for educational technology.

Partnerships

In January 2022, I began working as an educational consultant with Advanced Learning Partnerships. Through this lens, I work with schools and districts across North America to design and implement curriculum and project-based learning experiences that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
